Caddo Kiowa Technology Center awards Kiowa Tribe for Partners for Progress award
Oklahoma Technology Center staff and industry partners recently recognized outstanding businesses throughout the state. These exemplary companies work alongside tech centers to build better Oklahoma communities. This year, Caddo Kiowa Tech Center nominated the Kiowa Tribe for the Partners for Progress award.
The Kiowa Tribe has been a long-time partner with Caddo Kiowa Technology Center. Hundreds of tribal employees have received training from CKTC throughout the years. The tribe and CKTC have partnered together in several departments such as child development, business, CDL and bus driver training, Culinary Arts, Practical Nursing and Digital Imaging.
“Since coming to work here a little over a year ago, I have been amazed by the tremendous networking among partners in the district,” said Dr. Ely, BIS Director. “And the Kiowa Tribe is an excellent partner to recognize for this year’s Partners for Progress award.”
The Kiowa Head Start program is just one of the tribal programs to benefit from the partnership with CKTC. Many head start staff members have received early childhood development education courses through the Early Care and Education program. The majority of our staff have completed a Child Development Associate certification. What’s more, the head start staff continues to receive annual child development training to maintain their CDA certifications including first aid/CPR. Also, the head start program currently subscribes to CKTC’s online child care professionals course offerings – a key training source for compliance.
The CDL Bus Driving course is also a program utilized by the head start program. The tribe has hired several qualified and skilled bus drivers throughout the years. These drivers completed their training at CKTC. These drivers also continue to receive annual training for certification and compliance.
Since 2013, there has been a partnership agreement between the Kiowa Tribe Head Start program and CKTC to provide head start services to children. During renovations of the Kiowa Tribe Head Start Carnegie Center in 2015, CKTC provided space to the center from August through March.
CKTC and the Kiowa Tribe work together with a common goal: To bring training and services to the people in the district, which makes them an excellent candidate for the Partners for Progress award. For almost half a century, CKTC has provided career training, business and industry services and leadership programs to a rural district in southwest Oklahoma. Opportunities at CKTC range from business and health to science and transportation trades. Additionally, CKTC offers customized workplace training and short-term training.
